A couple of weeks ago we took a trip down south to see Matt and Kristen and while we were there we decided to run down to Huntsville and go to the prison museum there. We learned a lot of interesting facts about Texas prisons. Did you know that Texas has more prisons than most countries? Me neither....now you do. We also learned all about how prisoners on de.ath.ro.w are executed and we saw Ole' Spa.rky up close and personal. Let me tell you that it was very creepy!! I also learned that prisoners that have nothing but time on their hands can make anything out of any material. For example, someone made a bouquet of roses out of toilet paper..... and I would have never guess that it was toilet paper.
But the real fun started after we left the museum to head home. We decided to take small detour to the unit where inmates on death.r.ow. are executed. It is sort of like a campus so we were able to drive through it and take a few pictures. It was very old and eerie. As we were leaving, Zayne asked me to help him get untwisted from his seat belt so we pulled to the side of the road and I jumped back there only to find that he was trapped in his seat belt. I cannot fathom how he did it but the belt was wrapped around his stomach and locked into place. After trying for a second to get the seat belt to unlock only to fail, it became clear to me that we had a huge problem! Zayne began panicking, which as we all know, makes situations such as these worse! Shiloh was screaming because she did not want to be in her seat any longer. It was bad!
Zayne was screaming at us to cut the seat belt off, but we quickly told him that would be our last option. So we pulled onto a gas station to come up with a plan of action. We decided we would look for a To.yot.a dealership. After some searching and phone calls, we discovered that the nearest dealership was 30 minutes away. Zayne was mad because he thought we were going to let him suffer a horrible death in his seat belt and kept begging for us to cut it off! We told we would if they could not help us at the dealership. Then I told him if we did cut it off, expect to get a new seat belt in the van for his birthday!
Once we made it to the dealership they were very quick to help and with some finagling and a high powered tool of some kind we were able to safely removed him from the noose that the seat belt created around his waist. And we did not have to cut it! Once back in the car and headed home, Eric and I looked at each other and reminded ourselves why it is that we never go anywhere!!
Ahhh....all is well that ends well. I told Zayne as he was having a mini panic attack that we would look back on this and laugh..... he didn't think so...... but I was right. We have had many good laughs....even Zayne!
